Try this Goat Cheese!

Central Market is currently having a cheese festival with over 500 foreign and domestic cheeses in stock. Today, I found an amazing  (and reasonably priced) goat cheese by Coeur Chevre.  It is a soft ripened goat cheese that tasted somewhat like brie. This is a great goat cheese to use on a Warm Goat Cheese Salad.

California Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Have you tried it?

This past week I spent 3 days at the Culinary Institute of America’s San Antonio campus, attending a conference on Flavors of Latin America (more photos and details from this amazing program coming soon). Oddly enough, one of the sponsors there was California Olive Ranch, the largest producers of extra virgin olive oils in the US. To be honest, I didn’t even know California was producing olive oils! I am so trained to only purchase Italian or Greek olive oils that I have completely overlooked this product in the oil aisle.

The question they are posing to the consumer is “How FRESH is your olive oil?” When I sampled their Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the first thing that came to mind as I ate the crouton dunked in olive oil, was freshness. I was absolutely shocked by how much I liked the taste and the overall mouth feel of their product. There was no bitterness and it actually had the quality I love most about good extra virgin olive oils- a slightly peppery undertone (which I later leaned was from the Arbequina Olive that is included in their blend).

This product is slightly more expensive than the imported olive oils, but I think it’s great to see such a wonderful product being made right here in the US of A. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Dorset Mueslis

I am currently obsessed with Dorset Cereals;  I buy their muesli from whole foods almost once a week.   Every variety they make is made from wholesome and delicious ingredients. I eat it with Fage Greek Yogurt or just alone as a snack. Another great way to enjoy this is similar to oatmeal. My sister puts a some museli in the bowl, adds a little milk (just enough to cover all of the museli) then microwaves it for a couple seconds for a warm breakfast treat.
